Children and Lawn Mower Accidents
Keeping your lawn mower in tip top condition is important in being safe. Lawn mowers are used more often than any other tool in spring and summer, some areas even into late fall. You can do the maintenance yourself in most cases. In order to be safe from lawn mower accidents proper care of your lawn mower is a must. Injuries to children are pretty common and can be the cause of death or severe injury. Lawn mowers have been the cause of amputations accidents especially with children. Lawn mower accidents are a seasonal threat to kids and a leading cause of amputations in early adolescents as reported by John Hopkins Children's Center and also by Maryland's pediatric trauma Center. Always treat the lawnmower as a hazardous tool.
Never let a child play with a lawn mower. Lawn mower accidents are responsible every year for 9,400 injuries sending children to the hospital. In addition, every year about 55,000 injuries have been reported by the unsafe use or incorrect use of John Deere tractor mowers. Lawn mowers cause more serious injuries than any other tool according to research. Some of the more often injuries reported are fractures, lacerations, amputations of hands, feet, fingers, toes, and legs. Most of times such accidents are caused by a child standing in close proximity to a lawn mower in operation. Usually the person operating the machine not being aware of the child’s presence might accidentally knock or cause harm to the child who is not equipped with any protective gear.
Young kids can slip and fall into the moving lawn mower blades. Lawn mower accidents have caused the death of approximately 75 people every year. Flying objects can cause injuries because some people remove the grass shield. This can cause eye injury. Never let a child operate a lawn mower or ride on a lawn tractor.
problems with reverse gear on westwood ride on mower / lawn tractor-please help?
I can select reverse gear as normal but I dont get any movement (as though the clutch is slipping) it could be the clutch i suppose but i don't think these mowers have a clutch in the 'car' sense of the word? the mower is a westwood vanguard v-twin with a briggs and stratton 14hp engine it has 5 forward gears and 1 reverse (normally!!)please help.
these usually are mechanical fixed so the weld / pin or bar is loose on the shift
track the lever all the way back to the gear box to make sure its connected
