Second alternative way for this electric radiant heat system is, installing electric radiant heat mats. In this electric radiant floor heating

technique we have to install the electric cables inside the existing carpeting. These mats are such thin mats that they can't appear on
outside of the mats when you install them inside of the carpets. It does not looks like that some thing is lying under the mats. The mats

will be as flat as they were earlier. As well as, you can remove it easily whenever you want. You can remove it from under the carpet or
rug and place it some where else. That’s it!! You have done. One of the most effective uses of radiant electric heat is in locations where

only occasional heat is needed, such as in a shop or vacation cottage. But like any type of electric heat it must be carefully controlled to
prevent high energy bills.

do a leopard gecko need a light or just a heat mat?

Hi i am thinking of getting a leopard gecko, i have a small tank for it and sand, water bowl, hideout, and a heat mat, is it necessary to have a light for it? or will the haet mat be fine? thanks james
what watt does the light need to be and also is it fine to have a heat mat? and how long does it need to be on?
OK then ill correct myself, The tank I am using is a plastic reptile terrarium that used to house my corn snake, the "sand" is calcium based, and I am planning on feeding it 2-3 times a week with gut loaded crickets with a calcium dusting. the heat mat I have is the same diameter as the terrarium so its quite warm. I just thought as they are nocturnal and wont come out in the day, you wouldn't need a light, just a heat matt to keep it warm enough, but thanks for the replies

if temperatures are not high enough with just the heat mat, then you need a lamp
Tempertaures need to be 85 - 90F in the hot end.
I live in england and use heatmats and lamps for all of my reptiles.

Ditch the sand too.
It kills leopard geckos - impaction is very nasty, and they dont live on any loose substrate naturally. It may not look as pretty, but using something like newspaper or paper towels, repyi-carpet or slate at least isnt a massive health risk.

Atleast two hides are a must as well. For babies especially the need to hide often overpowers the need to thermoregulate.
How big is the tank too? Although not the biggest lizards in the world, leos still need plenty of room. If the tank is too small you will not be able to set up a proper temperature gradient and your pet will suffer.

With any pet you'll always want to give them everything they need to have the best life possible, not just the basics...
